19 of the Russian's twenty-one championships have been won on hard surfaces

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his first championship for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the tournament final.

The athlete, a ex- number one, has had a challenging season, achieving just one win at the Grand Slams and undergoing a setback at the US Open.

His varied form on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serving in especial - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and eventually separating with long-term mentor his previous coach.

Currently training with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily advanced in the last few weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive win over opponent Corentin Moutet.

It is his maiden trophy since the Italian tournament and maiden on a hardcourt since spring of the previous year.

Success also indicates he has secured twenty-one victories at twenty-one various events.

"For the first time I'm at a event with my both daughters together, so to win a trophy is particularly special," said world number 14 the champion.

"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had failed in his previous six championship matches, including in Halle in the past months.

The player's counter-punching strategy and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had prompted commentators to wonder if his skill to perform at the top level was over.

However the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to come to the net and perform positively, backed up by an improved serving game.

Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the initial set against the challenging opponent, securing four of the final five points to take the lead.

The pair traded service breaks in the second set before the challenger, striving for his maiden ATP Tour championship, took control to push for a final set.

He saved four early-game break points in a competitive deciding set before the champion broke to 15 to serve for the match.

Suitably, he earned the title with a shot at the net area, with his opponent unable to handle a shot after a lengthy match.
